Measures

This profile measures 14 levels of hormones, toxicity, and essential elements: 
 
Thyroid hormones (blood spot):  fT3: Free triiodothyronine, fT4: Free thyroxine, T4: Total thyroxine, TPOab: Thyroid peroxidase antibodies, TSH: Thyroid-stimulating hormone, Tgbn: Thyroglobulin. 
 
Essential element tests (dried urine):  I: Iodine, Se: Selenium, Br: Bromine, Li: Lithium, Crtn: Creatinine.  

Toxic metal tests (dried urine): As: Arsenic, Cd: Cadmium, Hg: Mercury

Comprehensive Thyroid & Elements Profile

Allows practitioners to see if an individual has too little, or too much, iodine and selenium, and/or exposure to the iodine/selenium antagonists bromine, arsenic, and mercury; full assessment of thyroid health, including screening for hypo or hyperthyroidism, determines Free T4 and Free T3 levels, testing for autoimmune thyroid disease, and monitoring thyroid replacement dosages.

Description

Measuring levels of toxic metals and essential elements can help determine if there are deficiencies or toxicity affecting the thyroid gland. A comprehensive test can measure 14 levels of hormones, toxicity, and essential elements.

The thyroid gland can be affected by factors like nutritional deficiencies and environmental exposure to toxic elements. This profile can evaluate elemental exposure, thyroid hormone synthesis, and some causes of thyroid disorders and other health issues.

The profile can help screen for hypo- or hyperthyroidism, autoimmune thyroid disease, and monitor thyroid replacement dosages. It can also determine if there is too little or too much of essential nutrients like iodine, bromine, lithium, and selenium, or overexposure to toxic elements like arsenic, cadmium, and mercury, all of which can affect the thyroid gland.

Iodine is essential for the synthesis of thyroid hormones, and a deficiency can contribute to hypothyroidism, pregnancy complications, and decreased IQ in children. Testing for iodine levels can be done through dried urine tests that look at how well iodine is incorporated into the thyroid gland and how it is utilized for thyroid hormone synthesis.

Essential elements like copper, magnesium, selenium, and zinc are critical for enzymes that synthesize neurotransmitters and activate hormones, and toxic elements can increase the risk of developing conditions like dementia, diabetes, and cancer, and cause damage to the liver, kidneys, and brain.

Thyroglobulin is a marker of iodine nutritional status, while TSH, Total T4, free T4, and free T3 provide information about the bioavailable levels of these hormones. TPO antibodies are important for individuals positive for Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
